BACK FROM AUSAR AUSET RETREAT

Hey guys, I just returned from this year's Ausar Auset Retreat. I am happy to say that it was a wonderful experience. It was an opportunity to turn inward and work on one's spiritual development as well as gain creative inspiration.

The annual retreat was an international event with people, along with priests and priestesses, from all over the world. Watching the young women around me studying the Kamitic religion made me think of Shakti. Who knows maybe one will be a Shakti in the near future. Everyone was so supportive of the project and eager to hear the latest news. Of course I ran my mouth off about the great cast we have assembled. However, I must give credit to Rakhunuhepp who really rolled out the red carpet for me. He made sure that all my needs were addressed.

I must also bow to the brother's (and God's) wisdom. Before going to the retreat he said that he did an oracle reading which said that we should rename the film "Shakti." Although I had my doubts he kept telling me that people would love it. Strange enough no one at the retreat was feeling the name "Master Killers." However, when I pulled out a special proposal with the title "Shakti" in big lettering they all went crazy. The young girls there couldn't stop reading the Chronicles of Shakti. The energy level was so high that during one of the rituals I got a call from my actresses Christine. She was excited and couldn't wait to tell me about some insight she had into Shakti's character. Her and I talked while dancers and drummers played in the background.

Christine was right on point and really gave us some good material to work with. She is so awesome. I must admit that I am very happy with the level of support and talent that is behind this project. It is my hope that Shakti will serve as the vehicle to inspire women and men all over the world. The retreat was just the start before we know it everyone will be part of Shaktism! Hetep!

Characters Must Have Conflict!

Conflict is not just an externalized event. Rather, good characters struggle with inner conflict. This conflict is the result of two divergent interests. In the Kamitic system this was symbolized by Heru battling his evil brother Set. Heru is the will and Set is the emotional aspect of our being. An example of this would be to have a character want to do the right thing but cannot because he or she has a conditioned response motivated by an intense emotion. This friction creates energy and is dynamic. If a character were to do exactly what they say it would be boring. But what keeps the audience engaged is that contradiction between what the character wants and the action the character takes to achieve that goal. Put simply - no conflict, no drama. I encourage you to dive into your character to explore what is it that your character wants and what inside them is preventing him or her from achieving it. Once that is done project that struggle so we can see it. A good movie to watch which gives a perfect example of this is the film "Sideways." The story is nothing big but the characters are so interesting that you cannot stop watching it not even for a minute. This is how our ancient ancestors wrote stories. It started with the understanding that we are our own worst enemy. So keep this in mind guys. Hetep!

Kudos to Obi!

Obi Holly playing the role of Devlin Davis had his first rehearsal today at Reelact studios. I am proud to say that he was simply awesome! Although I have seen the brother do his thing before, today he took it to another level. With the addition of the rest of the talented cast members, Master Killers is going to shine like no other indie film! It is a pleasure to be working with you Obi and with all of you guys! Keep up the great work.
